Forum Title: New house - carpet choice
I'm about to move into a newly built house and am planning on replacing the builder's carpet (25lb Shaw junk - they wouldn't let me buy my own carpet and use it for the install). Need approx 265 sq yards. Re-using existing 8# pad (brand new). I've been doing a lot of reading like others have done...and like so many others, my head is swimming. I also have a horrible history of analysis paralysis (to the point of never even making a final decision!). I'm doing my best not to let this happen this time because this needs to happen before we get everything installed in the new house in about 10 days. I *think* a good decision based on my needs/wants is a Tuftex (City Park). Based on everything I've been reading, I did make an executive decision and decided it's going to be nylon. What I'm having trouble finding though are all the actual specs for this carpet (Face weight, Pile height, Density, Twist, Stitches per inch, PAR). I have limited info on this product. How do I find this info? So question: Any comments about this carpet? Any others that you think I should consider that are in the same price range? Also, unrelated but....I happen to live about an hour away from Dalton (Ga) and am wondering - Is there any real cost savings to going there myself and buying the carpet directly (vs purchasing from local shop and having them install) ? I know there's certain risk and all, but let's make this hypothetical assume that everything goes smoothly. Would I save any significant amount doing this?

I know tuftex is in Los Angelos, don't know about there. I doubt you could buy direct, need to be a dealer. And then the install is the deal, if you buy direct you eliminate the installer/store that would help you if there was a claim on it. You can get that info from a sample somewhere.

Think I was reading Floor Trends little while ago and Shaw owns them, something about putting Anderson/Tuftex products together for a designer line.
